Why forest products are essential
The Canadian and BC governments have designated the forest products sector and critical parts of our supply chain as essential services as we all work to address the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a positive step in ensuring that, where appropriate, the essential products British Columbians rely on in their daily lives can continue to flow.
In addition to being a cornerstone of the BC economy and a major employer – forest products play a critical role in producing essential goods required in COVID-19 relief efforts, including specialty pulp that goes into making hospital bedding, gowns, face masks, drapes, caps and other medical supplies, as well as building materials, energy products, toilet paper and tissues.
Forest products companies are also looking at other ways to support the fight against COVID-19, with many of our members – including West Fraser and Canfor – donating much needed N95 masks and other products to healthcare workers in their communities.
